Who Are the All-Time Fantasy Football One-Year Wonders?
Oh, y'all want to talk some fantasy football today?!
I miss all our union members in the Fantasy Football Factory, so it's good to have a fantasy topic to discuss today. This is a great one, because almost every season there's a guy who comes out of nowhere that becomes the most coveted waiver commodity in the country and leads to screaming matches at various commissioners about how the waiver wire is set up.
Let's take a look at who made the list.
This is the first answer which came to my mind, as well. By far the worst player to ever grace the cover of Madden, Hillis did have one hell of a season in 2010, amassing 1,177 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. Those numbers were good enough for a 243-fantasy point season, second among running backs that season — Arian Foster led the pack with a ridiculous 330-point year.
But Hillis is the definition of a one-year wonder, compiling fewer than 1,700 yards and just 15 touchdowns in his other six NFL seasons combined.
What a great one. Who could ever forget the legend of BenJarvus Green-Ellis? He actually had a little more solid career than Hillis, but in 2010, Green-Ellis put up just over 1,000 yards accompanied by 13 touchdowns for the Patriots. The Law Firm had a couple more relatively productive seasons to finish his career, but was never the fantasy threat he was in that 13-score season.
Maybe this is just me, but I remembered Braylon Edwards having a much better career than he actually had. His numbers were those of a solid No. 2 option for a few years, but Edwards had a career year in 2007, putting up nearly 1,300 receiving yards and getting into the end zone 16 times.
His 14.1 fantasy points per game ranked behind only Randy Moss and Terrell Owens.
Remember when Trent Richardson was good? Though he never eclipsed the 1,00-yard mark in his brief NFL career, Richardson rushed for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns and put up another 357 yards and a score through the air during his rookie season. That was good for a top 10 fantasy back in the league — and it was very much all downhill from there.
It feels good to talk a little fantasy again. Hopefully we'll be doing it much more this season.
